History
hit-Technopark – from manufacturing location to think tank
In 1985, Hamburg University of Technology (TUHH) opened up new career vistas for its alumni in line with the credo ‘Implement ideas in your own company’. A suitable framework was developed to achieve it.
Brief history:
- The initiators were professors from the TUHH.
- The city-state of Hamburg established the hit Hamburg technology park on the site of the former Tempo Dreirad, three-wheeler vehicle factory.
- Young entrepreneurs, mostly alumni from the TUHH, obtained affordable technical and organizational support.
- Since 1994 the current manager, Wolfram Birkel, has provided missing capital and entrepreneurial experience for the young entrepreneurs. He has been supported by his son Christoph since 2005.
- Today hit-Technopark has developed into one of Germany’s largest privately financed technology parks.
- Among the residents, alongside the founders, mid-size and large national and international companies in the technology field are represented.
